The San Francisco Food Alliance brings together a diverse group of residents, community organizers, advocates and professionals who are working
towards a similar vision of a more equitable and sustainable food system. The Alliance envisions a city in which everyone has access
to nutritious, affordable and delicious food produced in a way that is environmentally sound, socially equitable and economically viable. Part of this
vision is also a city where people play an active role in shaping a healthy food system from seed to table and back to soil. In order to build interest,
community capacity, and knowledge around food systems planning and policymaking and to encourage more integrated food systems work in the City and County of
San Francisco, the Alliance focuses it work in the areas of education, advocacy, and community representation. The first citywide San Francisco Food Alliance
conference was held on March 31, 2003. Since then, the Alliance has convened on a regular basis and formed smaller working groups that focus on more specific
issues and projects. Staff coordination for the Alliance is provided by San Francisco Food Systems.
