Food Assistance at Farmers' Markets

San Francisco Food Systems is currently examining how farmers' markets in San Francisco can accept various forms of food assistance such as Food Stamps and coupons from the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program and WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program. Essential to these current efforts is an understanding of how electronic benefits transfer (EBT) - or lack of this technology at farmers' markets - impacts the food management strategies and thus the health of food insecure households. Improving the roll out of the EBT program at farmers' markets will increase food stamp recipients' access to fresh farm produce and thus have beneficial health effects.

Download a multilingual color brochure (which includes a map, market locations and market hours) or a color poster to spread the word about using the Golden State Advantage card (or food stamps) at San Francisco's farmers' markets.
